"The little dragon took an experimental bite out of the table, chewed it for a few seconds, spat it out, curled up and went to sleep"
pg 158, Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett, Harper Torch edition.
My friend says that sound like me. Only thing is, I don't bite tables, since I know they taste woody. I just sleep. ^^

Me-ow.

Where I am now...

... is too hot. Way too hot. But then, today was around 18 degrees and I was grumpy. Heh.

... there are too many insects. I do not like insects.

... the people are really nice.

I kinda like it here. =^^=

The End of an Era

Everything but. The Otago offers are out and I got everything but.

So, I guess this is the end of an era.

When I'm done with throwing tantrums, crying, sulking and mooching around the house being disconsolate, it's time for plan B.

Here we go again. I guess it's so long New Zealand, now. It's been good.

I wonder, I wonder

My exams have ended and holidays have started. Joy. It's been a busy few weeks and in a minute, you'll see exactly why.

First off, exams. I guess they were alright, except epidemiology. That was an absolute killer, but the less said about exams, the better, I think. =^^=

As to what I'm doing these days, I'm working. I got a part-time job at a local supermarket as a checkout operator on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday nights. I'm also known as a "checkout-chick" and, according to a friend, somewhere out there it probably violates some obscure, exploitable law, which considers it as sexually deframatory. Work has been pretty good so far and I quite like interacting with the customers (although not the grumpy ones, and the ones who think you're an idiot cause you work at the checkout). It's been even better since they installed the new checkouts and tills. We use a touch screen now, very high tech. =^^= There's a lot to learn, though. There are different ways to process the different methods a customer uses to pay. In the supermarket I work at, the customers pack their own groceries into bags themselves, but the casheiers have to stack the trolley for the customer so they can go to the packing area. Stacking a trolley, I must say, is an art in itself. You don't put the delicate, squashable stuff like bread, fruit and veg up the back, and you don't pack the raw meat with the salads. You should not pack detergents or any of the housecleaning items hear the raw foods. It's quite interesting to do and I hope I get the hang of it soon. So far, I've only woken up once in the middle of the night because of work and that was because I realised I'd left out a step in processing a cheque and I really hope I don't get raked over the coals for it when I go to work on Friday. Being new only excuses so much...

Other than that, I'll be in Australia for 3 days at the end of November for an interview at the University of Newcastle. I was told about this the day before the last day of my exams, so it took quite a while to sink in. I started panicking during the weekend, as I couldn't get cheap tickets, even from the budget airlines cause they were sold out and the whole thing wasn't going forwards cause I didn't have enough information. In any case, it's all settled now and I'm quite glad it is. I'll be flying into Sydney and continuing on to Newcastle. This is going to be... somewhat fun. If I don't start panicking over the interview, that is. =^^=

Speaking of interviews, I think my Physio and Dent interviews went ok. Ok meaning that I made it out alive and didn't get too much of a roasting. The Physio interview was scarily short, though. Way shorter than the scheduled 20 minutes. I didn't even reach the 15 minute mark. My Dent interview went past that, though. Some of my friends' interviews went on to 25 mins! The only part of my dent interview that was scary was the fact that the interviewers tallied my marks and came to a conclusion about me so quickly. I guess they either really liked me, or really hated me. ^^" Who knows, who knows.

Most of my friends have gone home now. This little kitty in Dunedin is not too happy. TT.TT Oh well. Hopefully, I'll still be here and see them all again next year.

I have also been catching up on reading these days. I borrowed 3 books from the library on Tuesday and I've finished them now. =^^= I plan to re-read them though, because I tend to re-read things. You can pick up stuff you missed the first round that way. I quite enjoyed "Every Second Counts" by Donald McRae. It's about the race to become the first surgeon to transplant a human heart. It chronicles all the players and the steps to the eventual successful transplant of a human heart by Dr Christiaan Barnard in South Africa. I liked "Complications- A surgeon's notes on an imperfect science" by Atul Gawande, which speaks of his years doing surgical training. Realistic and well written. I quite like the conversational tone of the book, which makes it easier to read. I will see if I can find any books like these to read to read during the flight to and from Australia. That is, if I don't sleep through the entire flight.

The Netball World Championships are in Auckland this month. The Rugby World Cup is dead, long live Netball, they say. What with my little jaunt to Australia, I don't think I'll have enough money to get to Auckland to watch, part-time job notwithstanding. Go the Silver Ferns~! By the way, why doesn't the Aussie netball team have a name? And the English team? Malaysia is participating in the World Champs, and they're in the same pool as South Africa and Jamaica. I say, good luck to them. The Sunshine Girls (Jamaica) are ranked 3rd in the world and I'm sure South Africa isn't far behind. Hopefully one of the free TV stations airs all the matches. And since it's in NZ it'll be at a respectable hour. Oh, this will be great to watch. =^^=

Right, that's all for this time. Stay tuned~ Over and out.

There go the All Blacks

Darn it, why'd the AB's have to crash out now? Now all the rugby fanatics will either go into mourning, study like mad or find another team to support. I hope it's the first or the 3rd, then there'll be less competition.

When did I become such a mercenary? *sheepish look*

Exams coming, plus interviews next week. It's a busy month. I'll be back later.

See you guys, have a good October.

Tag, I'm it

Tagged by Shih Ying to do this. This proves for once and for all that my Windows Media Player is cracked. Read away and laugh. I nearly killed myself laughing over this one. Speaking of which, this is the first time I've done one of these shuffled music tags. First time for everything. <(^.^<)

The rules laid out are:
1. Put your iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc. on Shuffle mode.
2. For each question, press the next button to get your answer.
3. YOU MUST WRITE THAT SONG NAME DOWN NO MATTER HOW SILLY IT SOUNDS.
4. Write any comments you have after the song name.
5. Tag everyone who’s linked to your blog (those reading this entry included too!) and get them to tell you when they’ve done theirs, so you can both laugh at each other’s “misfortunes” or “coincidences”! =D

If someone says "is this okay?" you say?
The Addressing of Cats – Andrew Lloyd Webber
… probably has to do with how particular I am about how I’m addressed. There are certain names no one should ever, ever call me.

How would you describe yourself?
Rewrite- Asian Kung-fu Generation
Yes. I’d like my life to be rewritten, please. One where I’m not all that ambitious.

What do you like in a guy/girl?
未了情- 莫文蔚 (Wai Liu Cheng – Mok Mun Wai/ Karen Mok)
Not entirely sure how to translate this. Doing something for love, I think. I could live with that.

How do you feel today?
Thunderbirds Theme- Barry Gray
Dramatic? Maybe

What is your life's purpose?
Boyfriends- FMA

… …

… … …

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…… no. Just, no.

What is your motto?
If You Were Gay – Avenue Q
I’d still be your friend, anyways. =^^=

What do your friends think of you?
序曲-黄河船夫曲 The Boatman on the Yellow River
I work too hard?

What do you think of your parents?
Une Petite Musique de Nuit- Mozart (A Little Night Music)
Um…. What?

What do you think about very often?
Hallelujah Chorus – Handel
Strange. I’m not all that religious.

What do you think of your best friend?
Piano Concerto 21 in C Major, 2nd Movement (Elvira Madigan)- Mozart
Gentle.

What do you think of the person you like?
彩云追月 Colourful Clouds Chasing the Moon
Playful, I guess.

What is your life story?
In a Persian Market - Ketelbey
I think this means there’s a Princess somewhere in here.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
情非得已 – F4 (Meteor Garden Theme, [I can’t help it]- F4)
I have no idea what to make of this one.

What do you think of when you see the person you like?
Carmen Prelude – Bizet
Uh… drama and tragedy?

What will they play at your funeral?
Butterfly Lovers Concerto, 2nd Movement – Vanessa Mae
Probably because of above tragedy and drama

What is your hobby/interest?
遇见 孙燕姿 (Meeting/ Turn Left, Turn Right- Sun Yan Zi)
I do like meeting new people…

What is your biggest fear?
周杰伦 (Wind – Jay Chou)
Not really… unless you count typhoons and storms…

What is your biggest secret?
Winner – Sakamoto Chinatsu
I truly, honestly don’t know what to make of this one. I’m hiding the fact that I’m a winner? -.- ()()

What do you think of your friends?
Romanze – Beethoven
They’re a bunch of romantics? Maybe.

Spring is here

These few weeks just seem to be never ending. I got some results back, not good at all. Sometimes I wonder why I'm doing this and I don't really have an answer. 's why I haven't really been updating, cause I'm all angsty. Angst doesn't really make for good blog posts. Anyway, photos. Spring is here, lookit them cherry blossoms.

The view out my bedroom window one fine morning. If you look very carefully, you can see the second rainbow, faintly, on the right.

This is a little notice from one of my debates, written my one of my seniors. It's meant as a joke [disclaimer].

In Retrospect

I've just realised that nothing much really goes up on my blog, which is a bit of a pity, since for some friends this is the only way they can keep in touch with me, especially since they don't have my IM or email. It's a bit hard, too, with the 4 hour time difference which will become 5 hours once daylight savings starts. I don't tend to stay up very late either and I have no wish to become nocturnal any time in the near future. I've been told that around 3rd year I'll become nocturnal but I think I can wait until then. No sense in becoming nocturnal before my time, in my opinion.

Does anyone else besides me think that my blog is rather, well... bland, for a lack of a better word? I haven't ranted, I don't really say much of anything, photo posts aside. I suppose I'm not being very informative right now. I could write about what I do in classes, but for quite a few people that would be nastily boring. Not to metion, I'd probably bore myself to tears at the same time. Heh. I do enjoy learning but I'm fairly sure it's not everyone else's cup of tea, what more science.

On to news, since nothing much of earth-shattering interest really happens in my life these days. I've got a one week holiday next week and I suppose I'd better clean my room. It's a bit messy, among other things and I'd really best sort out those boxes that I use to store stuff in. Oh yes, and study for that Biochem mid-semester that's the week after the break. I'm looking forwards to waking up at 8 a.m. as opposed to 6 a.m. on most days at uni. Maybe play some badminton? I'll see.

Otherwise, I'm quite well. Now that the HUBS and Epidemiology (a study of epidemics, not skin) terms tests are over, overall everyone's less stressed. Mostly. Now I'm off to enjoy what's lect of the sunshine on a Friday afternoon, the first really fine day we've had all week.

Happy holidays everyone~!
